State Fair charter bus trip, Aug. 25

Bertha-Hewitt Community Education and Staples-Motley Community Education are excited to host a charter bus trip to the Minnesota State Fair on opening day, Thursday, August 25!

We'll have stops in Bertha and Staples as follows:

Bertha-Hewitt School's 2000 Gym parking lot:
** 6:50 a.m. load and 7 a.m. departure​

Ernie's Food Market in Staples:
** 7:30 a.m. load and 7:40 a.m. departure​

We'll be departing the fair at 6:30 p.m. and returning by 10 p.m.

Cost is $45 per person. Fee includes transportation and ticket into the fair. We must have 40 pre-registered by 1 p.m. on Aug. 18 to make the trip a go.

The Back-to-School Community Open House will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. School families and the community are invited to attend!

Chromebook Fee waived if families attend Open House and complete Lunch Application


The Bertha-Hewitt School Board approved a new policy for Chromebook fees at their July board meeting. They will waive the $20 fee if parents/guardians attend the Back-to-School Open House AND fill out a Free and Reduced Lunch Application form by Aug. 31. 

Filling out the lunch application is very important. It ensures that Bertha-Hewitt School receives all of the funding and benefits available to support teachers and students.

Are we EXCITED to see students, families and friends? We sure are! 

That's why we are looking forward to Bertha-Hewitt's Back-to-School Community Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3:30 to 7 p.m.!

To avoid large crowds entering the classrooms at one time, please follow the schedule posted here. When it's your family's scheduled time, meet in the 2000 Gym for a brief presentation from administration.

  • 4:30-5:00pm - Last names A-E. Meet in 2000 Gym at 4:30pm.

  • 5:15-6:00pm - Last names F-N. Meet in 2000 Gym at 5:15pm.

  • 5:00pm - All 7th graders and parents meet in the library for 7th Grade Orientation.

  • 6:00-6:45pm - Last names O-Z. Meet in 2000 Gym at 6:00pm.

Please note, we understand that timelines might not work for all due to work schedules. We are flexible regarding specific times. 

After the presentations, elementary families can visit their classrooms and high school students will receive their Chromebooks and other pertinent information. Don't forget to have your Free & Reduced Lunch Application filled out and to Lisa in the office so your family's Chromebook fee can be waived!

School starts Tuesday, Sept. 6! 🥳


Youth 18 and under can enjoy breakfast and lunch free of charge thanks to the Summer Foods program at Bertha-Hewitt School. Summer meals end on Friday, Aug. 26.
